"Green Cleaning" Tips

With today's hectic schedules, it can be difficult to find time to clean the house.  Cleaning products that promise near-instant results with a minimum of effort seem to be the answer to our need to clean our homes quickly and thoroughly.  Unfortunately, many of these household cleaners contain harmful ingredients that can be a danger to those using the cleaners, their families, pets and the environment.

Any product that poses a danger to the user or the environment is considered a hazardous product.  Look at a product's label.  If you see the words toxic, poisonous, flammable, caustic or reactive, you are dealing with a hazardous product.  In addition, if a product recommends ventilation, eye protection, gloves, or keeping the product away from open flames, it is a hazardous product.

So what can you do to avoid these dangers?  First, REDUCE YOUR USE.  Use "heavy duty" or "industrial strength" products only when you absolutely have to, and buy only what you need.

For regular cleaning, try using one of the all-purpose, environmentally-friendly cleaners on the market.  There are several biodegradable, non-toxic cleaners that can be used, and using only one cleaner for several tasks can save you time and money.

Finally, you can eliminate commercial cleaners altogether and try some homemade alternatives.  These cleaners may take a little extra elbow grease, but they won't harm you or your family.  Click the link below  to download our "Clean & Green" recipe cards and give these old-fashioned cleaners a try.
