Paper Sorting Guide

 

The Plastic Scoop

Please note that there are three categories of plastic, each having their own bin for collection.  When you bring these plastics down, please make sure the # on your plastic container matches the sign.  Please:  

*   Rinse containers

*   Discard lids

*   No plastics containing hazardous waste (e.g. oil or antifreeze)

*   No plastic packaging

*   No plastic bags

*   No styrofoam

*   No plastic with metal rims

 

#1 See-thru Bottles & Jars       

*   Must be able to see thru (e.g. soda bottles)

*   Must have screw-type top

#2 Cloudy Jugs & Bottles      

*   Must be opaque (e.g. milk jugs)

*   Must have screw-type top

 

Mixed Plastics       

*   All other #1 containers

*   All other #2 containers

*   #3-7 containers (no plastic bags or styrofoam)

 

Aluminum Cans       

*   Drain liquids before recycling

*   Rinse aluminum food cans

*   Keep aluminum foil and tin cans separate from cans

*   We also buy back aluminum cans.  Call for price.

 

    

Aluminum Foil       

*   Clean foil only.  Keep foil separate from aluminum cans.

*   Place foil in the clear poly bag container in front of building (near Phone Books)

 

Batteries       

Vehicle batteries:   Please drop-off on spill control pallets near the used motor oil.

Rechargeable batteries:  Please bring to office window during operating hours

Alkaline batteries no longer accepted

 

   

Bicycles        

 

We accept bicycles (and parts) for the Village Bicycle Project.  This non-profit organization collects old bikes, restores them, and then ships them to Ghana Africa where they are distributed to citizens that have no other means of transportation.  Please consider donating your old bicycles to this organization during our operating hours, and we'll see that they are passed on to the folks at the Village Bicycle Project.  Thanks!  

   

 

Books                                 

 

*   Readable hardback and paperback books - free to drop off or take

*   Place in bin near the used motor oil drop off

*   No catalogs, manuals, journals, loose paper, etc. - place in Mixed Paper bin

  

Cartridges (Inkjet & Toner)                          

   

Residents and businesses can recycle inkjet and toner cartridges from copiers, laser printers, inkjet printers, and fax machines.  To participate in the program, please follow the guidelines below:

 

*   Please bring to the office window during operating hours

*   Reuse the box.  Please bring large toner cartridges in their original packaging.

*   No inkjet printer ink tanks

*   No reel-to-reel film toner ribbon (some Brother fax machines)

Cartridge WorldAccepts and pays for all recyclable cartridges and sells the recharged cartridges.  1475 S. Grand Ave., Ste. 102; Pullman, (509) 332-6465.

Staples:  Accepts all cartridges

Moscow Area Schools:  Accepts all cartridges (used in fund raising)

     

Cell Phones         

 

*   Moscow Recycling accepts all types of cell phones

*   Please bring to our office window during operating hours

  

      

CFL's (Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs)          CFL

 

*   Must be spiral-shaped bulbs and unbroken (no fluorescent tubes)

*   Please bring to our office window during operating hours

    

 

Computers/Electronics        cd player       computer    

*   Free to Latah County residents:  CPUs, Laptops, Monitors, TVs

*   Call for fees:  Calculators, Cameras (Digital/Video), Computers & Peripherals,

        Copiers, DVD & VCR players, Radios, Stereo Equipment, Telephones, TVs.

*   Bring to warehouse during operating hours

*   No kitchen appliances or microwaves

    

 

Corrugated Cardboard (USA)          

*  Two-ply cardboard with wavy center

*   Fold or flatten boxes

*   Brown grocery bags can be recycled with cardboard

    

 

 

E-Media               

*   CD's, Cassette Tapes, Diskettes, DVDs, VHS Tapes.  Call for details/fees.

*   Please bring to office window during operating hours

*   You can ship directly to the following recycler if desired (use media rate):

Glass Bottles    

*   Recycle glass bottles and jars only

*   Glass no longer needs to be separated by color

*   Drain all fluids and discard lids

*   Labels can be left on

*   No light bulbs, drinking glasses, ceramics, window glass, Pyrex or windshields

    

 

Magazines         

*   High-gloss magazines and catalogs only

*   If catalogs are thicker than ¼ inch, please tear binding into sections approximately ¼ in thick

*   Note:  Nat'l Geographic, Reader's Digest, TV Guides, etc. go in the Mixed Paper

  

Mixed Paper            

*   Single-ply cardboard such as cereal boxes, shoe boxes, soda and beer containers

*   Construction paper, pastel paper, wrapping paper, tissue paper

*   Paper towel cores, molded pulpboard (egg cartons)

*   Paper milk cartons, juice boxes, soy milk boxes

*   Envelopes (with or without windows), file folders, index cards, calculator tape

*   Slick or glossy paper (including pamphlets & brochures)

    

 

Motor Oil (Used)     

 

*   Residential use only

*   Deliver in sealed plastic container, no larger than 5 gallons

*   Set on spill control pallets located next to the building on the east side  

*   Do not dump oil into the spill control pallets

*   If you have used oil containers you wish to keep, bring to the recycling center during

business hours and we will assist you

*   Do not mix with other auto fluids

*   We do not accept antifreeze

  

Newspaper        

*   Remove newspapers from boxes, bags, or string and place loose in the bin

*   Inserts included in the paper may be recycled as newspaper  

 

Phone Books    

*   Place in bin located in front of building

*   No paperback books or catalogues

  

Scrap Metals     

*   Brass (yellow and red)

*   Copper tubing and wire

*   Aluminum (cast and sheet) - less than 3 1/2' wide/long

*   radiators

  

 Shred             

*   Put in tied-off plastic bags

*   Place inside of warehouse in caged area during operating hours

*   No diamond crosscut shred

 

 

 Shredding Services             shredding services

*   Please call for fees

*   Bring to warehouse during operating hours

*   No:  rubber, plastics, metals, 3-ring binders, glue bindings

    

Tin (Steel) Cans          

*   Food and drink cans only

*   Please rinse

*   Labels can be left on

*   Please do not mix tin with aluminum cans

*   No aerosol or paint cans

    

White Ledger  

*   Place inside warehouse in White Ledger bin

*   White copy paper

*   inkjet & laser printed computer paper

*   lined notebook paper

*   plain paper faxes 

*   No low grade or colored paper, cardstock or envelopes.  Place in Mixed Paper bin.
